Havre MT

The city of Havre holds the nickname “The Crown Jewel of the Hi-Line” and once you are here you can easily see why. Havre sits in the center of the Hi-line along US Highway 2 about 45 miles south of the Candian Border. It is the 8th largest city in Montana with a population of a little under 10,000. It is the county seat of Hill County. Havre is diverse in both its geography and culture. The Fresno Reservoir is to the West and is ideal for camping, boating, and fishing recreation. The Bear Paw Mountains are a 20 minute drive to the South, which are perfect for day hiking, family picnics, relaxing fishing trips, a weekend camping getaway, or snow machine adventures in the winter. The Canadian border is to the North, and golden wheat fields are all around as far as the eye can see. The community of Havre has a strong rural and agricultural background, with many family farms and ranches dotting the prairie side. Havre’s rich history dates back to 1893. Havre first served as a major railway service for the Great Northern Railway. Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway is still one of the major employers of Hill County residences.

Havre has a wonderful public school system for grades K-12, along with St. Jude Thaddeus School which offers education from Preschool through 8th grade. Montana State University Northern also calls Havre home and offers a variety of two and four year degrees. Havre is the proud home of the Havre Blue Ponies, the Montana State University Lights and Skylights, the Havre Ice Hawks, and NorthStars Baseball, just to name a few groups that offer a multitude of activities to attend with friends and family. Havre even has its very own live theater group, the Montana Actors Theatre, which performs six to ten live performances a year all with local talent. Havre is a friendly community that prides itself on its small town ideals and deep rooted family values. It is a wonderful place to raise a family, start a new dream or retire.
